Always and only made in Britain / Free UK shipping / Lifetime visible repair guarantee

Handmade in our own workshop: a classic chore jacket, inspired by French 'laboureur' styles.

  • Choose from Olive, Sand, Rich Blue, French Navy (a blue so deep it's almost black)

  • Handmade to order in our Southwold workshop

  • Delivery 14-21 days

An alternative to our Southwold Luxury Worker Jacket, our new classic, simply named 'The Chore Jacket', is handmade in our own Southwold workshop to the same superb standards, but we've simplified construction to make this one more affordable for everyday use.

The fabric is a light-to-midweight navy cotton drill (265gm): hardwearing and protected by our lifetime repair guarantee.

The Corozo (nut) buttons are made for us in the Cotswolds by England's only traditional button manufacturer, on the last purpose-made button-making machines left in the UK!

The Chore is an unlined jacket, generously cut to layer over a sweater, or just a Tee, for all year round use.

Features one internal and three external pockets.

More details and pictures to follow. Vintage photographs are indicative only.

We've worked hard to make our sizing system as straightforward and accurate as possible.

We provide a nominal traditional 'chest size' but we urge you to go by 'flat width' sizes. It's easy to do...

We recommend that you take a favourite jacket that you know fits you, button it up and lay it flat on a table.

With a tape measure, carefully measure the width from side to side from armpit to armpit (where the sleeve joins the armhole). This is the Flat Width (see chart below), and it is the most important measurement.

If your favourite jacket has a flat width of say 57cm, then choose a Medium. If it's 59.5 then choose a large.

This jacket is designed to wear over a shirt or thin sweater. If you think you want to wear a thick jumper under your new jacket then consider going up a size.

Bear in mind that our cotton jackets can shrink a little in first washing (we recommend cold hand wash... and never more than 30 degrees).

All measurements are a guide only. These are handmade products and may have minor size variation. If you find you've ordered the wrong size, don't worry: return it to us unworn within 30 days and we will send an alternative size.

Lifetime Repair

Open tab

Not many clothes come with a lifetime guarantee: but we’re so confident in the quality of every piece of clothing that we make, that, with help from us and care from you, we believe our clothes could last a lifetime.

What does our offer of a 'Lifetime Repair' mean for your Blackshore clothing?

It doesn’t mean that Blackshore clothes will stay looking like new forever: every piece of clothing weathers and wears each time it’s worn. However, what it does offer is the peace of mind that if, after years of frequent use, your Blackshore clothing tears, rips, or comes apart at the seams, we’ll fix it for you free of charge.

Our manufacturing team offer high quality ‘visible repairs’ for every Blackshore own-made garment, regardless of its age, at no cost to you. Much like restoring an old building we think this adds to the character of the item and sets it apart from others sold from our collection.

Want to take advantage of this guarantee?

If it's a Blackshore-made garment, then don’t worry if you can’t find your receipt, you won’t need it.

If you bought something in our shop made by a different brand, then we also offer a repair commitment: but we will need to see proof of purchase. So keep your receipt safe.

Just throw us a line via the contact page detailing what you’d like us to repair, and then send the item, along with your name and a return address, to our HQ in Southwold. We’ll fix it up and return the item back to you free of charge.

Want to read the small print? You’ll find it’s fully legible below.

We offer free repairs on all Blackshore-made clothing regardless of its age.

Our repairs are limited to items that have ripped, been torn, worn through at the knee or elbow, or come apart at the seams. We can even darn or repair holes in knitwear, and restitch at the seams: but again, please remember our repairs are 'visible'.

Woollen garments can be repaired... but they can't be made NEW. Not all knitwear is fixable.

We like to think of our repairs as badges of honour of a garment well worn.

We do not launder items sent to us for repair and as such are unable to remove stains. Unfortunately we cannot repair heat damage.

Please note that we do ask that you wash your item before you send it to us.

Thank you.

Please send your garment via a carrier that can provide tracking and insurance.

We will return all items free of charge to addresses within the United Kingdom. If you plan to send your item for repair from any other location please contact us for return shipping costs. This will be charged to you ‘at cost’, at the rate provided to us by our shipping service.

We want your Blackshore clothes to last as long as the harbour that inspired their design, and much like The Blackshore which has required numerous repairs throughout its lifetime, with a little help your Blackshore clothes will stand the test of time.

Sending your Blackshore items for repair does not affect your rights as a consumer. If you believe you have received a faulty garment please contact us via email simon@blackshore.cc.

Our address for repairs is:

Blackshore Coastal Clothing
37 High Street
IP18 6AB

Delivery & Returns

We make many of our clothes the old way, by hand, in our Southwold workshop. And in many cases we make to order. So there may be a wait for some Blackshore order to be delivered. Waiting times for made-to-order garments can be as little as a week, but can be up to two weeks for certain items.

Stock items are shipped next working day.

We will give a delivery time estimate when you place your order. Good things are worth waiting for aren't they?

We accept payment via all major debit cards, credit cards, and via Apple Pay, Amazon Payments, and PayPal. We do not currently accept payments via Solo, Electron, or Diners Club.

All of our UK deliveries are made using Royal Mail Signed For™ service and include delivery to Northern Ireland & the Channel Islands.

  • UK delivery – FREE
Overseas deliveries are also made using Royal Mail Signed For™ service.
  • Standard service for the rest of the world - 10 to 14 working days - £18.00

Please note that shipping charges are added automatically at checkout based on your delivery address.

If your order is being shipped outside the European Union (EU), customs charges and taxes may apply that you will need to pay directly prior to delivery. Please check these requirements with the relevant authority before placing an order.

If you need to return or exchange any item within your order please do so within 30 days of the delivery date. If you would like to return an item outside of the specified 30 day returns period you must contact our customer service team in advance or the item could be automatically returned to you.

To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging.

To complete your return, we require an order number, receipt, or proof of purchase.

All products must be returned in an unused condition. This means the product and its packaging, labels and tags are undamaged and unused. We will not accept worn, damaged, altered or used goods. We reserve the right to reduce the amount of monies refunded (up to the value of the contract price) where the value of the product is diminished from your handling, which goes beyond what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.

Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your returned item. We will also notify you when your refund has been approved.

Once approved your refund will be processed and a credit will automatically be applied via your original method of payment. Refunds will be processed within 7 days of approval.

If you haven’t received a refund within 14 days of receiving an approval notification please check pending transactions with your bank or credit card provider.

If you’ve done this and you still have not received your refund please send details of your order number and shipping address to info@blackshore.cc.

To request an exchange please complete the form provided within your delivery and return it with the item(s) you would like to receive in an alternative colour or size.

If the item was marked as a gift when purchased and shipped directly to you, you’ll receive a gift credit for the value of your return. Once the returned item is received by us, a gift certificate will be emailed to you.

If you received a Blackshore product as a gift and would like to exchange for an alternative size or style, we would be happy to do this as long as the item is in an unused condition. Please contact simon@blackshore.cc with further details regarding your request.

Please be aware that return shipping costs are not covered by Blackshore and proof of posting by a trackable service may be required if the item is not delivered back to Blackshore HQ in Southwold.

Depending on where you live, the time taken to receive and exchange your items may vary.

Customer Reviews

Based on 2 reviews
Great jacket, proper quality.

Firstly, this is a great quality garment that is really well made, the materials are first rate and will only get better with age. I have been looking for a quality Chore Jacket for a long time and this is definitely the best example I have found to date.

Service and delivery has also been excellent. The packaging is a nice touch and I love the ethos behind Blackshore.

Points to consider, do make sure you read the product guide and measure properly as per the instructions. I am a big guy and the xxl/50 came up smaller than expected so unfortunately I will need to return the jacket which is a real shame as its a great piece.

Great products, outstanding service

To me Blackshore's vision is traditional and modern at the same time and is something I am very interested in supporting.

The garments are very well made, fit well and the materials used are of great quality.

I must also comment on the personalised tags, handwritten notes and reaction to feedback which really made me feel like a valued customer and perhaps even a friend.
