I was desperately looking for a waterproof coat and tried a good few of those padded winter ones everyone seems to wear. Didn’t suit me at all. I accidentally found the Blackshore website browsing and loved the look of the orange poncho. Personally, I never spend this much on any clothing. I don’t shop a lot but prefer to stick to brands I love and buy things I will have for many years and preferably ethically made- so although expensive for me, I loved the company ethos and that it is made in the UK. I am short so didn’t know if it would suit me but I absolutely love it. It’s so different, the colour is beautiful, the design nautical and it’s big enough to throw over my winter coat in rain and light enough that I’ll be able to wear throughout the seasons. It is definitely showerproof but don’t think it is waterproof enough for torrential rain which is a slight shame. Beautifully made - so glad I invested and delighted to support Blackshore. Love your lifetime mend guarantee and the handmade by Lucia tag was a lovely touch.
I had expected to be heavier, I am pleased it wasn’t, it’s light and the wind doesn’t go through it. I’ve been toasty warm each time I have warn it, I do live in the south east though.
It also makes people smile!
Love this long length rain poncho. Plenty of room and great fabric, good workmanship, loads of buttons and no Velcro in sight! Just what I like. My only suggestion would be having a pocket in front, making it perfect! 5*
The colour is gorgeous. I wasn’t sure what to expect since some of the photos indicate a washed out orange, but it’s really bright. It’s a kind of ‘tent’ but that’s the point. It drapes nicely as the fabric is not that thick or stiff. I don’t know exactly how waterproof it is but trust it’ll work. It had a bit of a musty smell so I rinsed it and aired it, and the water shows through the fabric but doesn’t seep through. It’ll be interesting to see how it works in practice. I thought this kind of waxed cotton poncho could be a good idea since there’s nothing worse than being sweaty in the rain because of wearing plastic. I was quite seduced by the sense of tradition and quality conveyed by this company and as a non-native, I really like to touch base with the deeper elements of British culture and traditions, and support it. I think this piece of garment is reasonably priced. The poncho came with a little tag saying who made it and when. Very cute!
