My husband bought his gansey first - I was so jealous that he bought me one for my birthday. Excellent quality. It's a very heavy gansey - more so than the Gurnseys that Blackshore sell. This is what I/we wanted as we sail throughout the year we need a good warm jumper to keep out the cold. I can't wait for the winter to come so that I can start to wear it. My only criticism, is that it would be nice to have a ladies pattern. This is very much a man's cut - and for a man with rather large arms (I suppose fishermen do have bigger biceps than me!). I would also love it if there were different colours... but none of that stops me reveling in the quality of the gansey.
I have just received my new Gansey and it is superb.
The quality of the pattern and knit are fantastic with the orange neck and sleeve detail lifting it above a standard Guernsey sweater.
I chose a 44" chest although I am a 42" for most brands and the fit is just right.
Good job that the cold weather has returned so i can go and try it out!
Thanks to Oscar and the Blackshore Team
It jumper is beautifully made and extremely warm. It is smart and looks like it will keep its shape and last a long time.
The drawback is it’s sizing.
I ordered a 44 as I followed the advice on Blackshore’s website. This is still too small even though my chest measurement is 40.
I would return it but as it was a gift from my wife we do not have the packaging.
Also the sweater took a long time to arrive due to Blackshores forgetting to post it.
I cannot understand why the sizing is not changed to that a 40 is a normal 40 not a 36. It would save a lot of explanations, instructions etc.
Great sweater but please sort out the sizes.
I've been after a gansey for years and I'm delighted with this slightly modernised version of a classic......a beautiful bit if gear
Fabulous sweater - high quality and a nice design
